Cutting the distance- a pandemic reflection

2020

Summer 2020, Montreal.
At a festival organized in an alley, I measure with red thread the distance in which we are allowed to be together during this pandemic. All participants are distanced from each other by a thread of 2 meters approximately.
We stand in a circle, connected by the red thread an distanced by the thread at the same time.
I step in the middle and show items, small toys, animals, words written on a bag, miniature soldiers, asking a response from the participants.
We laugh and yell and express our reactions.
I then take a big scissor, cutting the distance, handing out chalks and inviting the participants to write a one word message on the walls in the alley.
The words leave a trace of our action, cutting the distance during this pandemic time.
