A table, chairs, old pictures, my black doll Katinka, postcards from ex-colonies of the Netherlands, a crochet table-cloth from my grandmother, an old map of Europe and souvenirs, objects from former east and west Germany, embroidery from when I was ten, a children’s book: a collection of objects and pictures.
I share stories related to my upbringing, unveiling how time changed.
Traditions and believe systems have been transformed and the changed times urges to re -think values from the past, to transform the Borders on topics like immigration, cultural changes and emancipation.
What we would love to reset if we would have that power?
History of the performance:
I presented Feeling in the blanks at studio 303 as part of an interdisciplinary afternoon, called Mistakes we will make together, curated by Angie Chen.
During this afternoon, I was touched by the stories and memories every participant shared so freely, having courage to tell us about what had changed in their point of view, opinions, experiences and memories during the times from when they grew up until where they are now in their lives.
Building this performance, I start with exchanging pictures, objects and stories about my own upbringing in the Netherlands to invite my ‘audience’ to participate and make the real performance happen!
Feeling in the Blanks toured in Prague at Cross Attick, in Rotterdam at Tante Nino and in Cyprus at Xarkis-festival.
