Exploring Don Quixote

2019

The character of “Don Quixote” seems to have lost nothing of his fascination and keeps on inspiring contemporary artists of all genres. The intricate tale of the literary anti-hero par excellence remains to be equally inviting and puzzling.

Exploring Don Quichote is guided by Jürgen Fritz, founding member of the international artist formation Black Marked International (BMI).
Since 1985, ten artists from six nations have been working together and developing their own style, the art of encounter.
Jürgen Fritz takes this approach with the participating artists in „Exploring Don Quixote“.
Over a period of 9 hours, they transform the round arches of the Honsellbrücke into a performative landscape.

“We will work on gender and social codes, on social rituals, the separation between private and public, on questions of stigmatization, love, physical love, aggression, the question of normal and abnormal behavior, shame, embarrassment, longing, hunger for recognition, hunger for beauty, hunger for touch and physical contact, on ideals of beauty, identity and the production of image.”

The performance took place at Lola Montez Kunstverein, Frankfurt.
